Annamiticvm pants

The word Annamiticvm came from the first ever dictionary which featured Romanized Vietnamese language (published in 1651). At the time it was purely used by Europeans to spread Catholicism across An Nam (Viet Nam).

It wasn’t until 1800s when a Vietnamese scholar named Trương Vĩnh Ký decided to develope and translate chữ Nôm (old Chinese-influenced Vietnamese) to Romanized Vietnamese (later named chữ Quốc Ngữ) once again. His purpose was to give everyone access to chữ Quốc Ngữ no matter the social class and religious background. With that knowledge and mindset, he published the first ever newspaper that featured chữ Quốc Ngữ, named Gia Định Báo in 1865.
